One of the most important artist of Barcelona definitely would be Antoni Gaudí. He helped the town with his unique constructions to a worldwide glory and prestige. Every year milliones of people are coming to Barcelona to see his work.
In his lifetime, Gaudí had a lot of antis, but today he is one of the most distinguished architects of the world and some are calling on the Pope to make him a Saint. Gaudí was born in 1852 in the katalan city Reus. He studied Architecture in Barcelona and finished his study in 1878. In Barcelona there are many sights which were designed by Gaudí. One of the famous ones is Parc Guell or the cathedral Sagrada Familia.
Park Guell is located in the district Gràcia and is one of the most famous sights in Barcelona. It is really nice to walk through the parc and to discover the many small works of art, like the colorful mosaicbank.
Sagrada Familia is one of the latest constructions of Gaudí. In 1883 he inherited the direction of the construction works and applied himself to this work until his death in 1926. In 2026 the amazing building will be finished. The work is financed only by contributions and entrance.
Two more highlights from Gaudí are the apartment houses Casa Milà (La Pedrera) and Casa Batlló, at the Passeig de Gràcia. The houses are, because of their architecture, very fascinating. They are, like the Sagrada Familia, Parc Guell and other works from Gaudí on the UNESCO-list of the World Heritage Site. So Barcelona is the only city in the world, which has so many sights of World Heritage Site.
